Next Big New Feature Coming To WhatsApp
Whatsapp is rumoured to be planning an upadate to its popular messaging app, that would allow users to share and listen to music directly in the app.
German site Macerkopf said it has been playing around with the latest developer version of WhatsApp, and spotted a new feature that lets you to share music with your contacts.
This includes music that is stored locally on your device, as well as tracks from Apple Music.
Apparently, the feature will work by letting you share a track, which the recipient sees via the album artwork and a music icon, which they can then tap to listen.
As well as music sharing, the upcoming WhatsApp update is also said to include the ability to create public groups - meaning anyone with a relevant link can join a chat.
Another rumoured feature is mentions, which will work like Twitter, but allowing users to quickly chat to people in their address book.
Finally, the update is expected to bring support for giant emojis, which will be displayed three times larger than those currently.
The addition of the new features seems to be a direct response to the features that Apple announced would be coming to Messages as part of its iOS 10 mobile operating system update later this year.
Apple announced the new features earlier this month, which it said will turn your chats from boring text into multimedia extravaganzas.
These range from animations such as balloons, confetti or fireworks that take over your entire screen, to automatic emoji suggestions and "invisible ink" that is only revealed when you swipe over it and handwritten notes.
The company showed off the new features at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, claiming they would offer "more expressive and animated ways to message friends and family".
