At its fourth annual Oculus Connect conference, the Facebook-owned Oculus showed the teaser of Facebook’s VR-focused strategy. At the annual Oculus Connect conference Facebook announced a series of VR-focoused products and tons of new hardware and future plans that could change the way VR is being perceived by the consumers.


With the new launches, Facebook is looking to control the overall VR experience with the help of onboard computation, which means no need for smartphones or PC.

At Facebook's  annual Oculus Connect conference the point of attraction was the launch of Oculus Go, its first standalone VR headset priced at $199. Oculus Go is basically a hybrid of PC-based Oculus rift and mobile-based Samsung Gear VR. The company says standalone is a new category and brings freedom and accessibility to virtual reality.

Oculus Go

At the event the one of major announcement was the launch of a new mobile headset named Oculus Go. Oculus Go is a standalone mobile headset, which will work with all existing Gear VR titles.



Oculus Go is a lightweight, wireless gadget. It is packed with WQHD LCD screen and spatial audio. The Oculus Go is listed at a price of $199 and will launch in early 2018. Mark Zuckerberg have called it “the most accessible VR headset yet”.



Rift Bundle

The Facebook has announced a price cut on Rift and Touch combo, dropping the same to $399 in the US. A Rift bundle comes with Touch controllers, sensors, and six free apps.


Oculus for Business

During the conference the launch of Oculus for Business was also announced, which is a professional Rift bundle for businesses.

Oculus for Business bundle is consists of Rift, Oculus Touch controllers, three sensors, and three facial interfaces. The company is company is also going to provide its customers with dedicated customer support and extended licenses. Oculus has already partnered with companies like Audi, DHL, and Cisco to push VR into the business space.

Oculus Dash is Rift’s new interface that looks like a sci-fi movie-like interface with windows floats in the air and has been built from the ground up for Touch. Dash was one of the coolest things that was teased at the event.


Facebook Venues

Facebook is going to launch a new VR app named Venues by next year. With VR app people will be able to watch live concerts, sports, movie premiers, etc. With this VR app Facebook is looking to compete with other VR app and bring a more immersive experience to its users.

At the event, Facebook introduced a new kind of News Feed posts that shows the glimpse of 3D posts. 3D posts will help the users to interact with the 3D objects with their fingers and touch, and can also rotate them and zoom.


Project Santa Cruz

Last year Oculus introduced its standalone VR headset named as Project Santa Cruz. This time Oculus has introduce a latest prototype updates to its Project Santa Cruz, which makes it more sleeker and is featured with fully tracked controllers to enable hand presence in standalone form factor.
